Any type of building can fall victim to a fire, even when you least expect it. From residential properties to commercial buildings, many homes and businesses alike burn down each and every year. Fortunately, there are several safety measures that can be put into place to avoid and minimize fires, least of which are fire sprinkler systems. And homes and businesses aren’t the only types of buildings where fires have broken out recently. Earlier this month a fire broke out in a high school located in Des Moines, Iowa. The school, East High School, only received a small amount of damage and luckily no one was injured, in part because a sprinkler extinguished the fire as soon as it started.
Officials believe that the fire started in a pressure washer that was running at night. Once the flames caused the temperature in the room to rise above 155 degrees, the sprinkler system went off. It was so effective that the fire was contained to the pressure washer, with only about $1,000 worth of damage done to the facility.
Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after the fire started, but the extinguisher has already put out the fire by that time. We’re relieved to hear of yet another case where a fire sprinkler is able to save a property and ensure no one got hurt, especially in a school.
At WM Sprinkler, we firmly believe that every building should have a fire sprinkler system in place. For more stories concerning fire sprinklers from around the country, keep checking back with our blog!
